Saving Your Skin

As your body's largest organ, and first line of defense, your skin is accustomed to the harsh treatment that everyday life brings it. But traveling often unleashes a new set of elements to which your body may not be accustomed. Taking care of your skin when you travel will not only help keep you looking young and beautiful, Narcissus, but you'll also feel more comfortable and rested.

Keep It Moist in Flight. Airplane cabins are dry as the desert. Use moisturizer frequently, and for added comfort, spray water. Evian makes a travel spray, as does H2O Plus. A small spray bottle (beauty supply stores are a good source for travel-size empty containers) filled with tap water works well, too.

Keep It Protected from the Sun. Warm weather and ski vacations are a sure way to a sunburn. Bring sunscreen with you, including a gentle but high-numbered SPF for your face.

Avoid Harsh Hotel Soaps. Many deluxe hostelries offer gentle glycerin soaps and after-bath moisturizers. But from the Hyatt right down to the Red Roof Inn, you're better off bringing your own soaps. A travel-size container of liquid bath/shower gel is probably your best bet.
